ABOUT GAP

Global Awareness Program - GAP, is India's first focused school based knowledge program, aimed at enhancing the global awareness levels in the students. Conceptualized and ideated by noted quizmaster Giri PICKBRAIN Balasubramaniam, the program is an attempt to create, enhance and sustain awareness levels on global happenings from across the world.

Help institutions create more globally aware students

The world tomorrow will be ruled by the informed as we slowly enter a knowledge economy. The children of today have to be globally equipped and have intercontinental comfort as geographic borders become redundant.

Create a knowledge conscious environment

GAP would like to be the breeding ground for a knowledge conscious environment wherein new information is received as fun and ignorance is accepted as an opportunity to learn more.

Increase student confidence & decreases surface knowledge

It is widely accepted that, informed children are generally confident as individuals and this helps them cope with even academic pressure better. Such confidence is normally seen only in a few students in each class. This program would help create more confident individuals in every classroom. The growth of media and the increasing exposure children have these days is creating a problem. It makes an individual know a lot of things, but not in depth. GAP would help reduce surface knowledge and convert it into depth by providing key information on happenings across the world to people and places in the news.

Present scenario w.r.t General Knowledge in schools

Based on extensive research done by us, across six cities of India, we have identified four distinct gaps that need to be addressed at the school level.

• The present understanding of students about global events and happenings is low. GK is not being taught in a structured manner in schools.

• There is a distinct gap 'within each classroom' with respect to global awareness amongst students.

• There is an 'interest gap' in the students. This means students are not very keen to update themselves on global trends or they simply find it boring. This is supplemented by the fact that children do not read newspapers and magazines these days.

• Teachers are keen to bridge this gap but do not have the time and resources to find continuous information on a monthly basis.

Salient features

»GAP is a continuous information tool that provides information support on global happenings

»Updates will be provided on a monthly basis

»There will be topicality in most of the topics covered

»It would also be presented in a simple, concise manner to help both the teacher and the student

»The entire structure of the program is to provide generation relevant information

»With issues being published in vibrant color, the interactive format enhances the child's sensation and retention and creates an environment of strong visual recall and association.

Why do schools require a general awareness enhancement program?

Trans Geographic Information

The world is a smaller place. It is therefore important for schools to prepare future generation of kids with global knowledge that is relevant to the present day context.

Just Academics Is Not Enough

The college and career interviews these days evaluate a student on two aspects, domain knowledge and global knowledge.

E.g: If you have to join on IT company and you are a programmer they not only see how good you are at programming but also look at how aware you are of what is happening in the IT world. School children need to be groomed in these non-academic aspects.

Need for Continuous Non Academic inputs

Globally there is a huge requirement for value added educational material. We are catering EXCLUSIVELY beyond academics to equip a child in a continuous, systematic, focused and defined manner.

The Unique 360-Degree Approach

We have adopted an exceptional method to approach each happening. The end result of this approach would be more valuable information and better reception by the human mind. The concept of the 360 degree approach is to provide information not just on an incident that has happened, but also to utilize the same as an opportunity or channel to teach related information.

With every incident where people, places and organizations are involved, the generic human tendency becomes to focus on just the initial /actual incident and not beyond it. Thus the concept behind the GAP program is to aid in building a new generation that will look for incremental information as a habit.

The entire concept is packaged and presented in an interesting manner with games and interactive tools to create higher interest and involvement levels. In fact, our study indicates that if presented correctly, even politics is interesting to students.

Objectives

The concept of the 360-degree approach is to provide information not just on an incident that has happened but to use the same as an opportunity to teach related information.

With every incident people, places and organizations could be involved and the human tendency is to focus on just the actual incident and not beyond.
