Age Compression

It turns out that kids are abandoning not just Barbie, but also most other traditional toys, at ever-younger ages. In the toy business, this phenomenon is called 'age compression,' and it's a deep worry to the industry because it has shrunk the market for baby dolls, action figures and other mainstays.Age compression hurts children, say some parents, psychiatrists and child advocates, who worry that this cultural shift is robbing kids of their childhood.

Mr Giri Balasubramaniam has been addressing forums of Principals and Teachers across India over the past 6 years having experienced it first hand during his time with Disney. There can scarcely have been a generation of adults that doesn't complain that kids seem to be growing up earlier than ever. This time there seems to be some substance to the cliche. The marketers have even coined a term for it-"age compression," or simply KGOY (kids getting older younger).

This workshop takes a look at the phenomenon and what it means for Teachers
