‘Revisit Education System to impart values’ says Vice President

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has called for revisiting the education system with the emphasis on history, heritage, culture, traditions, values, and ethos of India. He said that the stories of sacrifice and contributions made by the freedom fighters and other leaders should become an important component of our education system.
The Vice President said that the educational institutions must become temples of learning and wisdom and also stated that they should become sanctuaries of peace and harmony, growth and development.
Mr. Naidu emphasised that environment in university campuses should not be disturbed by conducting events that are not connected to education. He also emphasised that character building should become an essential ‘dharma’ of education.
The Vice President stressed on the importance of the role of Scouts and Guides and other organisations such as the National Cadet Corps (NCC) which helps students inculcate discipline and a sense of empathy to serve the needy.
Mr. Naidu stated that education must focus on developing a holistic personality of an individual and also said that apart from learning and acquiring knowledge, students must also practice yoga and participate in sporting activities as it is essential to develop a sense of equilibrium in the stress-filled world today.
